RV Generator Maintenance
Periodic maintenance is essential for top performance and long genset life. The table below is an example of the types of periodic maintenance that should be performed. In hot and dusty environments some maintenance procedures should be performed more frequently, as indicated by the footnotes in the table.
Keeping a log of maintenance performed and hours run will help you keep generator maintenance regular and provide a basis for supporting warranty claims. Click here to view and download a Generator maintaine record (13 KB). This will open in a new window and requires the free Adobe® Reader®.
Maintenance, replacement or repair of emission control devices and systems may be performed by any engine repair establishment or individual. However, warranty work must be completed by an authorized Cummins Onan dealer.
Typical Maintenance Schedule for RV Generators
Note that schedules vary by model. Please see your operators manual for the maintenance schedule for your generator. If you do not have your operators manual click here. We may have your operators manual available to download or view online.
A generator system is made up of many parts and wires. The fuel tank powers the generator. Should the gas tank drop to half a load, most generators are programmed to stop running--a measure that will prevent an RV from depleting its complete supply of fuel. There are gas, propane and diesel generators for RV campers. Minor problems related to the generator set, batter and exhaust are easy to repair.
